After 14 years the time has come for BET’s popular early evening live music series 106 & Park to come to an end. The network announced at 106 & Park will air it’s last daily television episode on December 19th 2014.
“We have pride in being involved with the show that has welcomed almost every movie star, music superstar, and fresh-faced talent you can name,” said Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials. “We’ve all laughed with and been entertained by the young men and women hosts that have charmed us at 6 p.m. (and more recently 5 p.m.) each weekday.” Hill added.
106 made it’s debut in September 2000 with AJ Calloway and Free as host, and since then has had appearances from every name in hip hop, as well as appearances from Oscar winning actor and actresses including Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Halle Berry as well as President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle. 106 & Park was also the final television music show appearance singer Aaliyah did days before her tragic death in August 2001. In 2006 Terrence J and Rocsi Diaz filled the hosting slot, while recently after Terrence and Roci’s departure from the show Bow Wow and Keisha Chante took over hosting duties. Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté will host the final daily on-air show.
BET did however mention that 106 will continue hosting the annual New Years Eve show as well as the annual BET Awards pre-show.
In 2015, BET plans to take the show digital via BET.com and its social media platforms.
“We’d like to humbly thank the ‘livest audience,’ both in studio and at home, who fueled this landmark TV show from the very beginning,” said Hill. “Meet you in the digital domain.”
