Is Sean “Diddy” Combs aspiring to be the next Bob Johnson? Quite possibly as Combs publicly announced in a video released earlier that he will launch a new music based television network called Revolt similar to a 90’s BET.
In a press release statement discussing the network Diddy stated, “REVOLT is the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media. We’re building this platform for artists to reach an extraordinary number of people in a completely different way. REVOLT will be live, like all great moments in television history. REVOLT will also be immediate, like today’s social networks”.
Revolt will feature music videos, live performances, interviews with prominent individuals within music and pop culture, but will incorporate the use of social media to allow for viewers to interact with programming in real time as they watch.
In other news however Diddy isn’t the only African American entertainment figure who is set to launch their own minority targeted television network. At the same time as Diddy’s television network was announced, it was also revealed that NBA great Magic Johnson will launch his own television network next year as well which will be called Aspire.
In a statement about Aspire Johnson stated, “Aspire will be a network that encourages and challenges African-Americans to reach for their dreams and will appeal to all generations. Aspire will celebrate our heritage, our groundbreaking achievements and the fearless talent that has shaped American culture. I’m most excited about Aspire creating opportunities for the new voices, new visions and the next generation of storytellers.”
Both Aspire and Revolt will launch via Comcast next year, and then will possibly be picked up by other cable companies in the future.
